E.Q: Super Power; The unidentified Power that lie within you.

So, I was reading an article on Intelligence Quotation(I.Q as many of us may know it to be) and noticed how there was a continuous repetition of 'E.Q' and discovered how important this 'EQ' is. While IQ can predict academic success , it may not necessarily lead to success in life whereas EQ predicts success and effectiveness in life. I was curious and made my research, fortunately, here is what I discovered;

Emotional intelligence, often referred to as EQ, is the ability to recognize, understand, and manage our own emotions, as well as effectively recognize and respond to the emotions of others. It involves being aware of our emotions and their impact on ourselves and those around us.

According to Britannia dictionary; Emotional intelligence (otherwise known as emotional quotient or EQ) is the ability to understand, use, and manage your own emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, communicate effectively, empathize with others, overcome challenges and defuse conflict.

Having a high- level of emotional intelligence allows a person to empathize with others, communicate effectively, and be both self and socially aware. How we respond to ourselves and others impacts our home and work environments.

EQ encompasses several key components. Which we will be looking into gradually, but in today's blog I will give brief explanations of some key components so that we can have an idea of what we will be looking into in the next few blog.

  • The very first EQ;Self-awareness: This involves recognizing our emotions as they arise and understanding the reasons behind them. This self-awareness helps us identify how our emotions influence our thoughts and behaviors.

  • Secondly, emotional intelligence includes self-regulation. This involves managing our emotions in a constructive manner, rather than letting them overwhelm us or dictate our actions. Self-regulation allows us to respond to situations in a thoughtful and balanced way, even in challenging or stressful circumstances.

  • Thirdly, empathy is a crucial element of emotional intelligence. Empathy enables us to understand and share the feelings of others, offering support and genuine compassion. It involves actively listening, being attentive to non-verbal cues, and demonstrating genuine care and understanding towards others.

  • Lastly, social skills play a significant role in emotional intelligence. These skills involve effective communication, conflict resolution, and building meaningful relationships. They also include cooperation, teamwork, and the ability to navigate social situations with tact and diplomacy.

Cultivating emotional intelligence can contribute to personal growth, enhance social interactions, and improve overall well-being. It allows individuals to navigate and manage emotions, build healthier relationships, and make more informed decisions.
